Turning and repositioning bedridden patients. Ensuring patients or residents receive appropriate diet by reviewing their dietary restrictions, food allergies, and preferences. Obtaining a wide range of information from physicians, caregivers and nurses about patient condition, treatment plans, and suggested activities. Measuring and recording food and liquid intake and urinary and fecal output and reporting changes to medical or nursing staff. Noting observations of patient behavior, including complaints, or physical symptoms to nurses.
Procedures: • Glucose point of care testing • Incentive Spirometry assistance • Obtain 12 lead EKG/ECG • Tracheostomy care • Measure/record drain output • Measure/record weight • Obtain Blood pressure, including orthostatic • Obtain patient Respirations • Obtain pulse (radial) • Obtain Temperature (oral, rectal, axillary, Tympanic) • Routine Catheter Care (Indwelling and External Catheters) • Stool specimen collection • Turning and positioning patient • Urine collection
Professional Skills and Knowledge: • Labeling specimens and transport • Abnormal/Normal Vital sign parameters (Adult and Pedi) • Fluid restrictions • Inventory/disposition of belongings • Lifting and pulling proper body mechanics • Limb restrictions • Normal Vital signs parameters (Adult and Pedi) • NPO status • Passive range of motion • Recognizing cardiac arrest • Safe patient transfers
Recording and Reporting: • Drain output • Bathing/hygiene • Diet intake/calorie count • Reporting change in patient condition • Turning /repositioning • Urine output measures and records
