Geriatric Nursing Assistant Location: Bowie, MD Contract Type: Per-Diem Shift Type: Per diem (days vary), 7:00 AM - 3:00 PM Day shift Hours per Week: 40
Roles & Responsibilities • Assist residents with activities of daily living including bathing, dressing, and toileting while preserving dignity • Support safe mobility and transfers, using proper body mechanics and equipment • Monitor and record basic vital signs and report any changes to nursing staff promptly • Provide warm, compassionate companionship and engage residents in meaningful activities • Maintain accurate documentation of care provided and follow facility procedures • Follow infection control practices and contribute to a clean, safe environment • Communicate clearly with the care team and the resident’s family to support continuity of care
Qualifications • Active GNA certification or completion of an approved nursing assistant program • Current CPR/BLS certification preferred or willingness to obtain • Up-to-date immunizations and TB screening as required by the facility • Background check and drug screen clearance per facility policy • Comfort working with older adults and a genuine interest in geriatric care • Reliable, punctual, and able to follow direction from licensed nursing staff
Education • High school diploma or equivalent preferred • Completion of an approved GNA nursing assistant program required
Knowledge & Skills • Hands-on experience with personal care tasks and mobility assistance • Basic vital signs measurement and reporting • Strong interpersonal skills and compassionate bedside manner • Knowledge of infection prevention and safe patient handling • Ability to observe, document, and escalate changes in resident condition • Teamwork, time management, and adaptability in a fast-paced care setting
