Geriatric Nursing Assistant Location: Lanham, MD Contract Type: Per-Diem Shift Type: Days not specified, 7:00 AM - 3:00 PM (day shift) Hours per Week: 40
Roles & Responsibilities • Provide compassionate, hands-on care to geriatric residents, assisting with activities of daily living • Assist with safe transfers, mobility, and fall prevention to keep residents secure • Monitor and report changes in resident condition to nurses and care team members • Support meal assistance and ensure hydration needs are met during shifts • Maintain accurate and timely documentation according to facility protocols • Follow infection control and safety procedures to protect residents and staff • Work collaboratively with the interdisciplinary team to deliver person-centered care
Qualifications • GNA certification (required) — current and in good standing • Current CPR/BLS certification (required or obtained upon hire) • Valid state GNA registration or ability to obtain registration in Maryland • High school diploma or GED preferred • Comfortable working with elderly populations and dementia-friendly approaches • Strong communication skills and a team-focused attitude
Education • High school diploma or GED preferred • State-recognized GNA certification
Knowledge & Skills • Skilled in assisting with ADLs: bathing, dressing, grooming, toileting, and feeding • Knowledge of basic infection control and safety protocols • Ability to observe, document, and communicate resident condition changes • Familiarity with safe transfer and positioning techniques • Good interpersonal skills and empathy for older adults • Comfortable following care plans and facility policies
