ONCOLOGY EXPERIENCE PREFERRED BUT NOT REQUIRED. EPIC CHARTING EXPERIENCE REQUIRED!
If you accept a 12D/N rotating contract, you may be scheduled for days, nights, or a combination of both, depending on the department s needs. Shift assignments are reviewed every 4-week scheduling period, but changes are not guaranteed and are based on staffing priorities at that time.
Key Responsibilities: • Float to various Oncology Medical-Surgical (MS) units as needed. • Ensure staff safety in a secure corrections unit environment.
Certifications Required: BLS (Basic Life Support)
Special Procedures/Unit Details: • Unit is a corrections unit for Ohio Department of Rehabilitation and Corrections (ODRC) inmates. • Locked unit with access controlled by Corrections Officers (CO). • CO to inmate ratio: 1:2. • Nurse to patient ratio: 1:3 for PCU, 1:4-5 for MS. Some shifts will be assigned to MS, others to PCU.
Shifts: Weekend shifts vary based on unit requirements.
Systems Utilized: • Medication System: Pyxis • Documentation System: EPIC
Patient Care and Management: Patient Diagnoses: • Active oncology diagnoses/treatments, including solid tumors and hematology. • Oncology workup admissions. • History of cancer admitted for other reasons (surgical procedures, COPD, sepsis, abnormal labs, pneumonia, etc.). • Non-oncology diagnoses admitted for reasons listed above.
Skills and Competencies: • Medical-Surgical/Telemetry • Cardiac Monitoring and Emergency Response: • Interpretation and management of dysrhythmias • Unit-based telemetry monitoring • Endocrine/Metabolic: IV insulin protocols • Gastrointestinal: Feeding tube care and management • Genitourinary/Renal: Pre/Post Hemodialysis and renal failure management • IV Therapy/Phlebotomy: Blood product administration, central line and peripheral line care/management, PICC line management, starting IVs • Medications: Heparin protocols, management of cardiac drips (no titration), PCA (Patient-Controlled Analgesia) • Respiratory: External CPAP/BIPAP, High Flow Nasal Cannula (HFNC), interpretation of ABGs (Arterial Blood Gases), nasal cannula, oxygen face masks, portable oxygen tanks, non-invasive airway management, tracheostomy management

Additional Unit Information • Interdisciplinary Support : IV Teams, Physical Therapy, Respiratory Services, Interpretation Services, Radiology, Social Services, Rapid Response Teams, Pharmacy, Transportation, Unit Secretary • Patient Diagnoses : Patients will have a variety of oncology diagnoses including solid tumors, blood cancers, post op care. Patients will also be admitted for oncology workup or a history of cancer with no active treatment plan. Patients could be admitted for (but not limited to) COPD, CHF, tumor lysis, DIC, Sepsis, chemo administration, neutropenic fevers, etc. • Special Procedures/Unit Details : This unit is a locked corrections unit that will include both oncology and non-oncology patient population. • Special Equipment : Working with Correctios Officers
