Unit Notes: Department: Med/Tele/Peds RN (This is a Medsurg/Peds unit - they do not have an ICU at this hospital, but may take Tele or ICU acuity patients - will not be asked to work outside scope of practice)
• Certifications Required: BLS, ACLS, PALS • PROFILE REVIEW+MANAGER INTERVIEW • Must have MedSurg, Tele, Peds experience
• # of Beds: 25 (max census in recent months 12-14 patients) • Nurse: Patient Ratios: Days: 1:4-5, Nights: 1:5-6 (If a patient is truly critical, the nurse will only have 1:1 or 1:2) • Common diagnoses/Types of patients: Peds to Geriatrics. Wide variety of illness/injury, chronic and acute. Commonly admit respiratory dx, infectious dx, GI, ETOH intoxication/withdrawal, liver disease, AKI, DM, DKA, swingbed/rehab, occasional social admit. • Experience or 'Must have' skills: 1 year of experience required. Prefer previous travel experience, but will consider if strong otherwise. Wide skill set required d/t variety of patient age and dx. Will have a nursing coordinator available for assistance. • Are RNs required to titrate drips Yes • Common titratable &/or set rate drips: Insulin, Lasix, Cardizem, Heparin, Aminophylline, MG, K+, Albumin, blood products • Is there a Charge Nurse on each shift No, but there is a house supervisor/coordinator • Are there nurse aids/patient care techs on this unit Yes - 1:12 • RT Equipment: Bipap, Vent, Glidescope, Heated high flow, bubble c-pap, as well as standard oxygen supplies such as: nasal cannula, oxi mask, non-rebreather, high flow cannula • Are there tele/monitor techs on this unit RNs must be able to read and interpret, no monitor techs • Shifts & Scheduling: 7a,7p, 7p-7a, rotating days and nights cannot guarantee blocked scheduling • Weekend Requirement: 2 out of 6 weekend minimum requirement; may be asked to fill in as needed on additional weekends. If on straight nights/ block scheduling - it will be every other weekend. • Holiday Requirement: Yes, will consider RTO if given ahead of time. • Is there Call or a Standby requirement No call, OT opportunity if needed. • Floating Requirements: May be asked to help in other departments if needed. Will not be asked to work outside scope of practice or do something that is not within your knowledge base or experience • Scrub Color: Any color scrub color • How many shifts of unit/department specific orientation 2 days, minimum • Additional Notes: They do not have an ICU here so they will, at times, take ICU acuity patients on this floor
Charting System: Meditech BSN Required: No Trauma Level: CAH Care Setting: Acute Division: Shift Notes: Days - first to float, 2 of every 6 weekends minimum, holidays as needed Required Certifications: ACLS, BLS, PALS
