Unit Notes: Department: PCU RN - 5N Traches and Vents experience is key on this unit. • # Beds: 28 • Nurse: Patient Ratios: Days: 1:4-5 Noc 1:5-6, dependent on acuity • Common diagnoses/Types of patients: Neuro focus: strokes, seizure, guillain Barre, Myasthenia gravis, spinal injuries, thrombectomies, TNK/TPA 24 hours post, neuro specialties- endovascular, AMS, dementia. Trauma ortho injuries- hematomas and bleeds, falls on thinners, farm and MVA accidents, etc. • Experience or 'Must have' skills: 2 years of MS, PCU, ICU experience. MUST HAVE experience in setting within the last 1 year. Must have drip experience. Highly prefer home trach vents- travelers to have that experience. Trach- Vents: Willing to train on vents but RN must be open to learning. Open to first time travelers. • Are RNs required to titrate drips?: Yes • Common titratable &/or set rate drips: Heparin, Nitro, Diltiazem, Amiodarone, 3%, Insulin. • Charge Nurse/House Supervisor? Does the charge nurse take an assignment?: Yes • Nights takes a full team and days to take a smaller assignment. • Are there nurse aids on this unit/Ratios: Yes days 1:9 noc 1:12 • RT Equipment: Vents, Trachs, Cpap, Bipap, Vapo therm, Etco2 • Are there Tele/Monitor Techs on this unit? Are RNs required to read their own strips? What brand are the tele monitors?: Central monitor located in a different area. • Shifts & Scheduling: Self scheduling, manager to balance (opens 6 weeks in advance) cannot guarantee same shifts for travel duos 12 hours shifts 7-730, 7p-730. • Weekend Requirements: Every other Friday, Saturday Sunday. • Holiday Requirements: Typically 2/3 holidays for winter, and otherwise every other • Is there call or a standby requirement?: No call • Floating Requirements: Yes- sister MS units, 6 different specialties: mixed care, cardiac, general, MS ortho, heme/onc, to take a more general patient etc. • Scrub Color/Dress code: Any solid color scrubs • Unit/Department specific orientation: 1 Shift of General, 1 shift with a preceptor
