Roles & Responsibilities • Prepare the operating room with sterile instruments and supplies to ensure each case runs smoothly • Assist surgeons and the perioperative team during procedures by passing instruments and anticipating needs • Maintain strict sterile technique and patient safety standards throughout the case • Safely set up and troubleshoot surgical equipment and surgical instrumentation • Respond confidently to trauma and urgent cases across orthopedics, vascular and general surgery • Document intraoperative care and case details accurately in Cerner • Participate in on-call coverage and provide reliable coverage during weekends and variable shifts • Collaborate with nursing and surgical leadership to improve patient flow and OR efficiency
Qualifications • Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) via NBSTSA required • BLS certification required • Minimum 2 years of surgical/OR experience preferred • Experience in trauma, orthopedics, vascular or general surgery is a strong plus • Comfortable with call responsibilities and flexible scheduling including nights and weekends • Familiarity with Cerner or other electronic charting systems preferred • Able to complete 12 hours of orientation prior to the assignment
Education • High school diploma or equivalent • Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) via NBSTSA required
Knowledge & Skills • Strong knowledge of sterile technique and surgical instrumentation • Familiarity with operating room workflow and perioperative patient care • Ability to prioritize under pressure during trauma and emergency cases • Proficiency using Cerner or similar EHR systems for intraoperative documentation • Excellent communication and teamwork skills to coordinate with surgeons and OR staff • Adaptability to rotating shifts and varied surgical specialties
